A community meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at 6:30 pm to inform residents impacted by the Mountain Fire about the Local Assistance Center opening in Camarillo. The CalFire Incident Management Team, County public officials and the City of Camarillo will host the meeting at the Rancho Compana High School Performing Arts Center.

INCIDENT UPDATE

The Ventura County Fire Department and numerous other agencies remain on scene of the Mountain Fire Incident. Over 2,000 personnel have been assigned to the incident which is currently estimated at 20,630 acres with 48% containment. Several Evacuation Warnings and Orders remain in effect in the City of Camarillo as well as unincorporated Camarillo, Somis, Santa Paula and Fillmore.

LIMITED ENTRY – EVACUATION ZONES 3 and 4E

Some of our hardest hit areas within Camarillo Heights are not yet able to be fully re-opened. However, residents of these areas will be allowed to access the area on Monday, November 11, 2024 and Tuesday, November 12, 2024 between the hours of 9:00am – 5:00pm. Personnel, including Red Cross volunteers, have been deployed at four locations where residents wanting to visit these areas can safely pull over to check-in, and obtain free clean up kits and supplies. Deputies on-site will be checking identification to ensure the overall security of the area and impacted residents.

The check-in/supply locations are:

    • Mission Drive and West Highland Drive/Highland Terrace
    • Mission Drive between Santa Cruz Way and San Clemente Way
    • Valley Vista Drive and Vista Del Mar
    • Valley Vista Drive and Cerro Crest Drive

RE-ENTRY PROCESS FOR EVACUATED AREAS

The incident management team is working around the clock to ensure areas are safe for re-entry. Prior to allowing re-entry, each area is thoroughly reviewed by response personnel to ensure your safety. Often, this process can take time as damaged electrical and gas connections take considerable effort to secure. Please be prepared for areas heavily damaged by fire to take longer to inspect and secure.

As Evacuation Orders are downgraded to Evacuation Warnings, there is still an element of danger as fire crews may still mopping up hot spots and ensuring other hazards remain controlled. By downgrading an Evacuation Orders to an Evacuation Warning, this does not mean the situation is safe. There is still a chance that an Evacuation Order may be re-issued if dangerous conditions return.

To determine the evacuation status of your residence, please refer to the VENTURA COUNTY INCIDENT DASHBOARD .

Water Quality

The City of Camarillo would like to assure its water customers that the water is safe to drink and can be used without restriction, as usual. The fire did not damage equipment or impact the Desalter treatment facility. Camrosa Water District has also assured customers that their potable water is safe to drink with no water quality issues.

Unsafe Water Alerts

When neighborhoods are impacted by wildfire, critical infrastructure can also be impacted. Water systems can lose power or sustain damage. There is also the potential for the chemical Benzene to leach into the water system from materials burned in structures and pose health risks. Three water purveyors were impacted by the Mountain Fire and have issued unsafe water alerts to their customers. As areas are repopulated, potable water may not be readily available through the tap. All three companies are working diligently to restore full capacity, make repairs, flush systems and send samples to independent laboratories to ensure the water meets requirements set by the State Water Resources Control Board. As soon as lab results confirm the water is safe to drink, the unsafe water alerts will be lifted. This could take anywhere from several days to a week, depending on system needs and laboratory testing. Please see below for details for each water purveyor.

The following water providers have issued Unsafe Water Alerts to some or all of their customers:

Waterworks District No.19 – Somis

County of Ventura, Water & Sanitation has issued an UNSAFE WATER ALERT FOR WATERWORKS DISTRICT No. 19-SOMIS to its customers, advising them that the water is not safe to drink or boil due to fire-related impacts caused by the Mountain Fire. For more information, call 805- 378-3000.

California American Water

California American Water has issued an Unsafe Water Alert to its customers, advising them that the water is not safe to drink or boil. Available water may be used for limited purposes as outlined in the advisory. Potable water will be delivered to impacted customers until the unsafe water alert is lifted. For more information, call 866-269-2837.

Pleasant Valley Mutual Water

Pleasant Valley Mutual Water Company has issued an Unsafe Water Alert to its customers, advising them that the water is not safe to drink or boil. Available water may be used for limited purposes as outlined in the advisory. For more information, call 805-482-5061.

Crestview Mutual Water Company

Crestview Mutual Water Company has lifted the Unsafe Water Alert for their service area as of 11/11/24. Residents may resume normal water consumption.
